Tutorial - How to get any version Samsung Omnia II i8000 firmware directly

This tutorial is addressed to owners of the Samsung Omnia II i8000 Windows Mobile based phone (GSM or CDMA) who want to upgrade or change their phone, regardless of any geographical area, mobile operator, language.
Until now, methods to change was to download from samfirmware.com (but limited as variety) or pay when using Samsung Firmware Downloader.

I decided now to make publicly available another method, for free, which I used and tested since 1 year ago when I bought my Omnia II i8000 and wanted to test and experiment.

The method is legal, does not infringe any copyright and uses only Samsung official and legal software.

I do not demand any payment (like Samsung Firmware Downloader author does).
Like my previous programs: Zeno USB Host Drivers 2011 v1.0, Zeno Sloim Canada Ski Webcams 2011 v2.0 build 2011-02-04 and Zeno Sloim Romania Webcams 2012.2 build 2012-02-06, all is done as free, because I believe that knowledge belongs to all people and should be spread for free.

My tutorial will be published both on 4PDA, XDA Developers as well as on Modaco, where Samsung Omnia II i8000 have a big collection of resources for those interested.


1. Tests were done on Windows XP SP3 with Agnitum Outpost Firewall Pro 2009 v6.7.2 (3001.452.718.367) installed - essential condition, inlogged as Administrator.

2. Install: latest Samsung Kies, Samsung_CDMA_modem_4_1_34.zip, Samsung_USB_Driver_X86_32bit.zip

3. Configure Agnitum Outpost Firewall Pro on Firewall Policy: Rules Wizard.

4. Get most comprehensive CSC_I8000NXXJI1.CSC (191 MB (201,064,448 bytes)) or if you have any other csc bigger in size which contains a bigger database with any geographical area, any mobile operator, any country or any language.

5. Close (Exit) Agnitum Outpost Firewall Pro.

6. Connect your Omnia II i8000 in Normal Mode to your PC and start Samsung Kies.

7. Choose option to check for updated firmware, depending on your existent ROM, Kies will show if it finds any newer firmware.
If not finding (you already have latest official, or a cooked one, case where you must reflash your phone with any official one, even old).

8. After Kies shows that there is a newer firmware or you already have the latest, close Kies.

9. Disconnect from Internet the PC.

10. Connect your Omnia II i8000 in Flashing Mode and reflash only the csc: CSC_I8000NXXJI1.CSC or the bigger one you have.
Pay attention to the desired upgrade firmware you are looking for and configure accordingly the CSC in Octans (for ex. choose desired geographical area, country, language, operator, etc).

11. Disconnect and restart Omnia II i8000.

12. Reconnect PC to Internet, restart Agnitum Outpost Firewall Pro and reconnect Omnia II i8000 in Normal Mode to your PC and start Samsung Kies.
You will be prompted many times by Agnitum Outpost Firewall Pro to allow communication of respective Kies component to internet (various IP addresses belonging to Samsung), choose to allow only once per file, protocol , port and IP address.
Don't allow permanently, but only once , even if you will be prompted many times!

13. Choose option to check for updated firmware. Now Kies will show exactly the desired firmware you were looking for, even more possible alternatives if they exist.
You will be prompted many times by Agnitum Outpost Firewall Pro to allow communication of respective Kies component to internet (various IP addresses belonging to Samsung), choose to allow only once per file, protocol , port and IP address.
Don't allow permanently, but only once , even if you will be prompted many times!

14. Choose the one you want.
You will be prompted many times by Agnitum Outpost Firewall Pro to allow communication of respective Kies component to internet (various IP addresses belonging to Samsung), choose to allow only once per file, protocol , port and IP address.

15. Desired firmware will start to be downloaded.
Open the folder C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp and wait for download.

16. After sometime, Kies will prompt you to start the install of the new downloaded firmware and Agnitum Outpost Firewall Pro will prompt you again.
Look in C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp and see if there is a file with long name alike:
GT-I8000_I8000NXXJI1_I8000XEEJI1_I8000XXJF1_I8000XEEJ I1_XX_XEE.zip.enc2

enc means it is encrypted

17. Carefully allow only 1 step when permission is demanded in Agnitum Outpost Firewall Pro.
Look again in C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp and be very carefull when decryption is made sequentially and all files inside the encrypted are decrypted. They will appear as:
Eboot_I8000NXXJI1_HW_40.eb0, I8000XEEJI1.csc, PDA_I8000NXXJI1_HW_40.MST, Phone_I8000XXJF1.bin, SS_DL.dll.

These names are particular for this file GT-I8000_I8000NXXJI1_I8000XEEJI1_I8000XXJF1_I8000XEEJ I1_XX_XEE.zip.enc2.
In your own case it could be any other names.

18. Carefully copy somewhere else all the decrypted files.

19. Choose to continue flashing with Kies or stop the whole and exit Kies.

20. Now you have directly from Samsung the desired firmware files and you can flash with Octans when you want.

21. Repeat steps 10 to 19 for getting any desired firmware.

Enjoy now your desired firmware for free, without paying or registering somewhere.
Knowledge is free, I strongly believe in freedom of information and people's right to knowledge without paying.
My tutorial is based on fully legal programs from Samsung and do not contain any illegal information or copyright infringement.
IMHO I still believe Samsung Omnia II i8000 is perhaps the best ever made Windows Mobile phone.
For people who carry on security, privacy and own right to private life, only Windows Mobile offers enough security and privacy.
Nor Android and neither iphone can do that.

FAQ

1. What you see on screen when you connect something?

For HDD, Memory Flash or CardReader, you can see in Explorer(Resco Explorer or WM Explorer) the new unit labeled as "Hard Disk".
For keyboard, you don't see , but in any program using the device own keyboard (Touch Screen or slide - HTC Touch Pro), you can just type on external USB keyboard.
For mouse you see a yellow-green mouse cursor on screen which follows the external mouse movements.
For DVD you see : "External Mass Storage"
For Serial port a little window prompts you to configure the serial port settings and communication protocol.
Or start "Zeno Terminal" in "Start-Programs-Zeno USB Host Drivers" for configuration, or start "Zeno 232 USB Serial" in "Start-Programs-Zeno USB Host Drivers", for configuration.
For digital camera start the program "Zeno PTP View".


2. Is program limited to only devices with USB-host?

Yes and no. It depends on the hardware construction, accesible USB connector, even older devices without usb-host can have usb-host functionality. Many models and manufacturers has hidden this feature which really exists in their devices. The only way to find is to test it and if not working, search if other users succeeded. Original Fujitsu Siemens Pocket Loox 560N has included by default usb-host connector, with support for HDD-Memory Flash only.


3. Cables and power supply - which ones?

I always tested it with powersupply incoupled for my Loox, even if HDD or DVD-unit self was powered separated. More info on how to build an injected USB power supply here:

You can use the cables/accessories from an external powered usb 2.5" hdd unit and adapter mini-usb to usb (usb cables with 2 heads at one end for external power supply).


4. Does it work on my device?

There's nothing harmful, nothing malicious hidden in my program, so you can test it on your devices without risk for dataloss or other unpleasant effects.
The installation (CAB) is not locked to certain device, it is uninstallable, it is not compressed to avoid install problems on certain devices. On my FSC Loox 560N I could install/uninstall without problems. Test my program, if it works, I'll be glad I could help other users, without thinking of money or profit. If it does not work, I can not guarantee I can help you. Just try and see.


5. Can it read data from attached DVD-unit or NTFS partitions?

Yes. The DVD unit I used is an Acer USB-based CD&DVD-RW made 2004 for an Acer Tablet-PC.


6. Barcode readers?

A user commented that even an USB barcode reader worked ok.


7. Incompatibility problems with other programs?

I can only test on my FSC Loox 560N. You can try on other devices and report in this thread on your experiences.

I was born in Romania, many of my old comrades (computer engineers - both hardware and software developers) from Technical University of Iasi, emigrated to Canada finding a new life. I choosed to emigrate to Sweden.
Many times I wish I had choosen Canada instead, hence my sentimental affection to Canada: wonderful wild nature, Shania Twain music, among others.

The idea is to offer in a mobile form, a direct visual experience of wonderful places like:

I want to express my gratitude to those canadian sites who host the included cameras.

I was asked why not developing for Apple? I gave a clear answer: I do not agree with the gready aggressive commercialism of Apple, I do not agree with their restrictive politics for developers, which is not because of their effort for securing the consumer, but for maximising Apple's profit. I will never develop for Apple.

Why not for Android? Android is far insecure compared to Windows Mobile, there are not enough advanced security programs which can identify malware components in apk-s, much more difficult to analyse compared to file system in Windows Mobile.
Even today, after more years of Android, when it comes to advanced serious software, Windows Mobile is still on top. While in Windows Mobile is so easy and fast to check a new program for hidden malware and backdoors, that is not the case with Android, far more complicated and time consuming.

In Windows Mobile is very easy and very little resurse-consuming to assure maximal security and privacy for own data, no matter what software you use. In Android is much more difficult to achieve same level of security and own privacy.
Android is still full of backdoors and holes where various authorities can access your private data, that is not the case with Windows Mobile.
Why such a mess with Android, because no part is interested and on contrary, a lot of governments are taking the road of total control and surveying like in Orwell 1984 and Android is an ideal platform for such things.

I remain devoted to Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1 platform, which is the last one offering maximal security and privacy for the user/consumer. Neither Windows Phone 7 or 8, neither Android or IOS (Apple) offer enough resources for privacy, own security and freedom of choice to choose what to install without being "controlled" by Big-Brother.

No other concurrent platform to WM6.1 has such a widespread offer of real serious software and not junk as is on the so-called Android market or Apple apps.

For those still aware of their personal integrity I recommend: stay to WM6.1.
Avoid Windows Phone 7-8, avoid Android and avoid any Apple product.
